Stimulants: Stimulants, also known as “uppers”, increase alertness, energy, and concentration. Common types of stimulants include cocaine, amphetamines, and caffeine. Stimulants can be helpful in treating certain medical conditions, such as narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, they can also be dangerous when used recreationally, as they can lead to anxiety, insomnia, and even heart failure.

Depressants: Depressants, also known as “downers”, slow down mental and physical processes. Examples of depressants include alcohol, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines. Depressants are often prescribed to treat anxiety or insomnia, but can also be abused for their calming effects. Long-term use of depressants can lead to physical and psychological dependence, as well as an increased risk of overdose.

Hallucinogens: Hallucinogens, also known as “psychedelics”, cause changes in perception, mood, and behavior. Common hallucinogens include LSD, psilocybin, and MDMA. Hallucinogens can be used to treat certain mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression. However, they can also be dangerous, as they can cause extreme changes in behavior and can lead to addiction.
